Differences from the book[]

  • In the book, Tessa is not in the band at first and is infact a jerk that annoys Alex. As the book progresses, she becomes nicer and wants to join the band despite being a bad singer.
  • In the book, Alex had a 2nd Male friend.
  • In the book, Alex showed an interest in wanting a diary beforehand.
  • In the book, Alex is more of a betting man, using the diary to find out about things he can bet on.
  • In the book, the diary has this strange force that makes people do the things it says they will do. At one point, it says Alex will take over the school bus and he tries not to do it but a force compels him to do so.
  • In the book, the final diary entry simply says "DEAD" while in the episode it drops the title.
  • Both versions have the same twist ending, but the episode has James Avery to make it clear that he is now cursed to repeat the events for all eternity.

Trivia[]

  • The concept of an object that predicts the future (as well as a title that adds a death pun to an existing phrase) is similar to the Goosebumps book Say Cheese and Die! which in turn was inspired by the Twilight Zone episode A Most Unusual Camera.
